Attention experienced outside Business to Business Sales Reps: If you are looking for a great long-term relationship sales role where you can build a book of business over time, consider becoming a Group Employee Benefits Insurance Producer.
My client is a well-established leader in employee benefits. They are located in the greater Tacoma area and specialize in groups that have 10 to 500 employees. They have terrific client retention and they use state of the art computer programs to allow their customers to have in-house online benefits capability, while never sacrificing the personal touch. Every call is answered by a real live person, not a recording.
How the training program works:
If you do not have your Washington State Life & Disability license, this will be the first thing you will be required to obtain once you start. WA state requires you to take a 40 hour pre-employment licensing class. You can do this online and the client will cover the class/licensing fee costs. You will be expected to obtain your license within 30 days of starting employment.
Once licensed, you will work with the Sales Manager to learn the ins/outs of employee benefits. This includes gaining a solid understanding of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) as it pertains to groups, and learning the various group medical, dental, vision, and other product offerings that Carriers such as Regence, Premera, United Health Care, and other Providers offer.
Once you have the product coverage basics down, you will learn how to prospect for new group customers to gain expiration dates and other information so that you can quote coverage. Your goal will be to add 2 new groups each month for a total of 50 lives/month. You will use Sales Force as your CRM to track your progress with each prospect and you will use Zywave’s Broker Briefcase tools for your sales proposals. You will be prospecting for business through a combination of networking with your natural market, calling area businesses to introduce your services and requesting the opportunity to quote on their benefits package, and following up on any leads that come in from current customers.
You will be supported by a cracker jack team of tenured account managers and analysts who will assist you with new business policy rating and placement. You will be expected to be in the office or working from your home office when you are not seeing customers. You will act as a consultant and will advise on the best strategies for your groups to have the broadest coverage plans that meet their cost parameters. You will also advise your clients on ACA updates and compliance issues throughout the year.
How the compensation program works:
You will be paid a combination of salary and commission. You will get 50% of the agency’s new business commissions on each new group you sell. It is paid out monthly based on the number of employees in the group, and you are paid as the monthly premium commissions come into the agency. First year income is expected to be $60,000 to $75,000. Second year income is expected to be $75,000 to $90,000. You will receive renewal commissions as you build your book and gain long-term repeat customers.
The company offers a full benefits/retirement package, and a lot of autonomy. You will have many technology tools at your disposal including a laptop computer,
