If you have at least 2 years of successful outside business quota based sales experience, are good at selling intangibles, and want to start a career that allows for building long-term relationships in a recession resistant industry, consider becoming a Group Benefits Insurance Producer with my well-established insurance brokerage located in the South part of Puget Sound.

Group benefits are medical, dental, vision, life, and other voluntary insurance benefits that companies offer to their employees.  This is a rare opportunity to learn the business from the ground floor while having a validation salary plan and benefits along with hands on training/mentoring from the Sales Leader. This is a great long-term sales career that allows for 6 figure income by the end of your third year as you develop your skills in the industry and continue to add new groups to your book of business and enjoy repeat customers.

You will act as a consultant and will advise on the best strategies for your groups to have the broadest coverage plans that meet their cost parameters.  You will also advise your clients on Affordable Care Act (ACA) updates and compliance issues throughout the year. You will have many technology tools at your disposal including a laptop computer, Sales Force CRM for keeping track of customer opportunities, and Zywave’s Broker Briefcase tools for putting together proposals.

Here’s how the training program works:

You will have to obtain your WA state Life & Disability license if you do not already have one.  It is a 40 hour WA state class that you take online.  The agency will pay for the class/licensing.  Once licensed, your pay will be $5000 per month as you ramp up your sales pipeline and start to earn monthly commissions which offset your salary.  First year income based on meeting your minimum quota is projected to be at least $65,000, 2nd year at $70,000 to $80,000, and 3rd year $115,000 or more.

You will start off your training with in-house orientation with the service team to learn back office workflow. This gives you a chance to see all parts of the application process from initial request for quote through the group insurance installment.

Next you will work directly with the Sales Leader to learn how to sell group benefits and will start developing a sales pipeline through a combination of new business prospecting techniques. You will use Sales Force to track your opportunities. You will be looking for emerging or recently established startups who want to offer benefits to their employees, You will also be looking for companies that are dissatisfied with their current benefits broker due to lack of service or problems with claims.  You will be focused on companies of all sizes with an emphasis on groups of 10 to 100 employees. Each employee is called a “life” and your goal will be to add a minimum of 50 lives each month to your book of business.  Commission will be 35% of the agency’s commission from the Carrier. Once your monthly commissions equal your monthly salary, you will be considered “validated” and you will move to the regular producer renewal and new business pay plan.

Once you have completed training, you will be able to have a flexible hybrid schedule with time in the office for meetings, trainings, etc.

You will be supported by a cracker jack team of tenured account managers and analysts who will assist you with all of the back office quoting and paperwork as well as handle daily service requests once the account is established.

Only candidates with previous outside business to business sales experience with a strong sales track record will be considered for this role. Preference will be given to local candidates who have achieved a stated quota performance at a previous firm and have had some type of formal B2B sales training with experience calling on C-Suite prospects. College degree preferred, not required.
