Our topic: The Hidden Dangers of Indeed Auto-Generated Resumes

As an insurance recruiter who reviews hundreds of resumes for licensed account manager positions, I’ve noticed a concerning trend that’s hurting qualified candidates: relying on Indeed auto-generated resumes.

Here’s why these resumes are sabotaging your insurance career opportunities:

✅  Important emails can get lost: Indeed puts its own Indeed email address instead of your personal one on your resume, often causing important messages from hiring managers to land in your spam folder if they are not using the Indeed app or the Indeed website. Even worse, the system only captures your most recent response without maintaining a complete conversation history – a nightmare when you are juggling multiple opportunities!

✅  First impressions matter: These auto-generated resumes are 3-5+ pages. They pull from exactly what you put in your Indeed profile. So if you used poor capitalization or spelling, or your cell auto-corrected without you knowing it, those errors are on your Indeed resume which shows a lack of attention to detail – a critical skill for any account manager position.

✅  Job critical skills are not on the first page where they should be. Your valuable insurance licenses and client management expertise get relegated to the last page as single-line items, if they appear at all when they should be prominently featured up front. The skills section can sometimes be 2 pages long and usually has completely unrelated skills listed that don’t belong on your insurance resume.

✅  Generic appearance: Every Indeed auto-resume looks identical, has the exact same formatting, making it nearly impossible to separate yourself from the applicant pack!

✅  Untargeted content: Indeed resumes aren’t customized to highlight your relevant insurance experience, and often have a career statement that contradicts the job you are applying for. It is also on the top of your resume so when the screener looks at your resume, they can automatically put you in the “no” pile.

The solution is simple: Upload your own professional, targeted Word or PDF resume instead! This ensures your personal email is the only address on there and makes it easy for the employer to contact you without having to use the Indeed website or app.

Take a few extra minutes to customize your resume in Word or PDF for each role BEFORE hitting that “apply button”. This will give you a fighting chance to land that first interview instead of landing in the dreaded “NO” file.
