If you have been wanting to start your insurance career, but you don’t have your license or any insurance experience, this hard to find training program is for you!

My client is a growing insurance agency located in Des Moines, WA. He wants to hire a new team member who has great customer service and inside sales skills. This is a rare opportunity to join an established agency where you will be paid to learn!

Here’s how the training program works:

During your first 30 days, you will be enrolled in the Washington State Online Pre-licensing class which is necessary for you to obtain your Property & Casualty and Life & Disability Licenses. Each license takes 20 hours of class time. In addition to doing online learning, you will also spend some time learning the agency computer system which will prepare you to start working on policy customer service once you have your licenses. Once you complete your online training, you will take the WA Insurance License test online. When you pass, the Office of Insurance Commissioner will award you with your insurance licenses. They are yours forever as long as you keep them up with 24 hours of continuing education every two years.

After you obtain all 4 licenses (about 1 month), you will start your agency module online classes which will provide in depth training on personal lines coverages (auto, home, boat, rental, umbrellas, life). Each module will go over how to quote pricing, assess risk, fill out applications, and work with company underwriters. This part of the training will take about 30 days depending on how fast you pick up on the information.

Once you have completed all of the initial online learning, you will work with the Agent and senior staff who will introduce you to customer accounts, show you how to do service requests, explain how to do a comparison quote for new policies, and also how to handle claim inquires.

Your compensation will consist of your salary ($17 to $19/hour DOE) and a monthly bonus which will be based on your performance during training as well as on your individual contribution to the sales goals for the office. By the six month mark, you should be able to make at least $500/month in bonus; more if you exceed your goals. Realistic first year income is $45,000 to $55,000.

The company offers profit sharing, participation in medical benefits cost, PTO, and they pay for all licensing costs.

  • Be coachable and a fast learner
  • Be able to pass a background check (no DUI’s or felonies)
  • Have fast computer/data entry skills
  • Have strong communication skills on the phone and over email
  • Have stable work history post high school that involved computer data entry and customer service on the phone and/or in person.
  • Have a commitment to the local Des Moines area and a desire to be in the insurance industry long term.
