My client is a specialty transportation underwriter with clients across much of the USA.  They are unique in that they provide programs to a wide range of customers and look for creative out of the box ways to help them meet their insurance needs.

In this position, you will go through an in-house customized training program to familiarize you with computer systems, coverages offered, underwriting methods, and specific carrier program appetites. You will work in a team-based, highly supportive environment.  They will teach you how to search for solutions, analyze, and price for risk characteristics vs. placing a risk in a box.

This is a full time, permanent, Mon to Fri in-office role (no work from home options).

Key job specifics include:

  • Review, analyze, underwrite, quote, bind and endorse new and renewal business within broad individual underwriting authority level.
  • Make individual risk decisions relative to acceptability and price for business assigned with the focus on minimizing loss, while increasing profitability
  • Rate and quote multi-state accounts in custom built underwriting system
  • Request and obtain renewal information as needed.
  • Request additional information from brokers as needed to underwrite new business.
  • Communicate with brokers on status of quote and other issues of concern.
  • Complete cancel/rewrite policies in accordance with carrier guidelines and company procedures.
  • Review and process Broker of Record Letters in a timely manner, no later than 24 hours of receipt.
  • Assist brokers with various tasks or requests such as higher level endorsements, final audit issues, troubleshooting, etc.
  • Perform file documentations and underwriting notes in preparation for policy issuance.
  • Review loss control reports for bound business and monitor for rec compliance.
  • Review individual account claim frequency and severity during policy term and annual renewal as needed.
  • Maintain solid broker relationships over the phone, email, and regular personal visits.
  • Build and maintain favorable carrier relationships over the phone, email, and personal interaction.
  • Assist other underwriters when workloads demand or when others are out of the office.
  • Meet deadlines set forth by management and/or underwriters within the team.
  • Meet production, retention, hit ratio, and profitability goals set forth by management.
  • Successfully pass internal, state, and carrier file audit reviews.

The client is looking for commercial insurance experience ideally from the insurance carrier or agency side, past underwriting experience is preferred.  Any transportation coverage experience is a huge plus, but is not required.  A WA P & C license is needed, but can be obtained once employed.  Strong Microsoft Office skills are needed.  Soft skills include the ability to creatively think about a risk, be coachable, be a good problem solver, be proficient at interfacing with a wide range of personalities, and being organized and able to work independently.

My client is a growing independent insurance agency located in downtown Seattle, WA. The agency owner will not only pay for you to get your Property & Casualty license, put will also pay for your Liberty Mutual Producer School!

This is a rare training opportunity that doesn’t happen often!

Once you have completed training, you will work with the agency owner to learn how to develop centers of influence, network, follow up on internet and other leads, and quote on personal lines business. You will be writing home, auto, RV, boat, motorcycle, renters, and small business policies.

You will have a salary and commission compensation program which should earn you at least $50,000 1st year if you meet minimum monthly sales targets.

You will sell both in the office and in the field. You will be paid on new policies as well as renewals. The goal is to build up a book of repeat customers and develop strong referral channels to help you build additional business.

Commercial Lines Construction Claims Advocate

Have you recently worked in the claims department at an insurance brokerage? If you have great client service skills and a knack for following a claim through from start to finish, then my client wants to talk to you!

My client, a large independent insurance brokerage that specializes in middle market and large account commercial risks, is adding an in-house Commercial Claims advocate to their team. The goal of this role is to facilitate and monitor client’s claims so that they are settled smoothly and nothing falls through the cracks. This in-house adjustor role supports the claims needs for their Commercial Construction Division.

The company offers competitive salary, rich benefits package, and retirement plan. They are very dedicated to staff development and career growth. After 6 months of employment, there will be some opportunity to work remotely 1 to 2 days per week, depending on claims load and client needs.

You will be responsible for assisting the account teams and clients in reporting of property, liability, and management liability claims to the insurers, claims monitoring, and proactive advocacy for the clients. You will also assume responsibility for the proper and timely reporting of client claims to the appropriate insurer, and will proactively manage the claims database providing reports for both account team and clients. You will contact the adjuster directly to obtain claims status, update the client regarding any outstanding issues needed to resolve the claim, and utilize knowledge and judgment to affect the best possible outcome for a client in claims situations.

Background Needed: You will be required to obtain a WA P & C license and you need to have at least 2-3 years of related commercial claims experience in an agency setting ideally with construction related claims. An undergraduate degree is a plus. Excellent written and verbal skills are essential, ability to and willingness to take initiative, be self-directed and be comfortable making decisions using sound judgment. You also need to have good negotiation skills, possess a high level of accuracy in your work, have exceptional organizational skills, and be able to meet deadlines.

Mandarin Speaking Insurance Trainee

Do you want to learn how to sell insurance, but don’t have your license or any experience in the industry? If you like to help people, are good at sales, and want to have repeat customers, this company will give you the training you are looking for!

My client is looking for his next “rising star”. He will pay for you to obtain your insurance license and will send you to Liberty/Safeco’s Producer school. You will be a W2 employee, NOT a 1099.

You day will consist of following up on internet leads, mail campaigns, and other new business marketing/sales activities. Your goal will be to schedule a policy review to go over the insureds current coverages and educate them on specific carrier products that will help broaden their coverage limits and save them money. You will also be looking for opportunities to sell additional lines of coverage as well as gain referrals. You will be a customer educator and advisor/consultant. Hours are Mon to Fri and you will be required to be in the office daily. The office is conveniently located in downtown Seattle on the bus line. They have a number of Mandarin speaking customers and a lot of referrals.

The Agency Owner is a fantastic trainer and mentor. He knows how to help you make money without being a pushy salesperson. The company will pay you a base salary (DOE) and commission on new and renewal sales. Expected first year income (salary + commissions) should be in the $50K to $60K+ range depending on your insurance knowledge.

Ideal candidates will have experience in a sales role (either on the phone or as an outside rep). The client is looking for someone who wants a sales career in insurance, not just another JOB. Preference will go to local candidates that are networked in the Seattle area.
