My client is a boutique Employee Benefits agency located in the Gig Harbor/Tacoma area. They are growing and want to hire an experienced Employee Benefits Account Manager to round out their Client Service team. The agency has a strong dedication to work/life balance and is known in the community for outstanding client service. They believe that every customer group is important, no matter what size. The client is offering a “King County” style salary and benefits package including 401K with match, 120 hours of PTO, paid holidays, paid continuing education/industry memberships, and mileage reimbursement for business travel. This is a full time, Mon to Fri in-office job unless traveling locally for client meetings. You will be working with groups of 10 to 350 lives. Salary range is $65,000 to $90,000 DOE.

Key job duties include:

  • Build and maintain relationships with clients, and carriers
  • Provide consistent, accurate, and timely communication to clients through verbal and

    written correspondence

  • Build out and maintain Employee Navigator for new clients and/or open enrollment

    Conduct face-to-face meetings with clients, and carriers, as necessary, including open

    enrollment meetings

  • Coordinate with producer and analyst to create new and renewal proposals, including

    spreadsheets, plan options

  • Prepare written communications such as open enrollment memos, renewal reports,

    custom employee communications and benefit summaries

  • Submit new and renewal business to insurance carriers and audit for accuracy
  • Provide an elevated level of customer service to resolve claims, billing, and other issues

    on a timely basis. All activity should be appropriately documented through agency


  • Provide compliance support to clients, including annual compliance notebook, and

    assisting with federal, state and insurance company requirements including ERISA, ACA,

    HIPAA, COBRA, FMLA, 5500s, PCORI, etc.

  • Maintain client files accurately and consistently documenting conversations, sending

    confirmations to clients, and adhering to all agency automation and documentation


  • Actively participate in meetings with prospective clients

Background desired:

  • WA Life & Disability license
  • 2+ years of agency employee benefits account management experience
  • Ability to handle a group renewal from start to finish for groups sizes 10 to 350 (self-funding knowledge or desire to learn is a huge plus)
  • Polished Account Management skills over the phone, email, and in person.
  • Ability to solve problems and find solutions for clients
  • Ability to work autonomously without a lot of supervision

Group Benefits Account Manager: Small Group

If you want to work in South Puget Sound and you have some experience with small group benefits and like to have autonomy with your groups, my client would like to meet you!

My client is a boutique group benefits insurance agency located in Tacoma, WA. They have a very loyal client following and are well-respected for their innovative use of technology and dedication to customer service and retention.

They are adding a Small Group Service Account Manager to their team. The book will be groups of 2 to 10 lives and you will handle all parts of the renewal including using Excel for spreadsheets. This is a salaried office role with Mon to Fri hours. You will be responsible for customer service on the phone and over email as well as quoting, spreading the rates, on-boarding the groups, and being the liaison for benefits questions and claims advocacy. In short, you will be the insured group’s benefits go-to person!

Candidates need to have some core medical group benefits experience in account management from an agency or benefits carrier to be considered for the role. The client will pay for you to obtain your Life & Disability license if you don’t already have one. You must be comfortable using Excel and Word at an intermediate level with strong accuracy and have a love of people and customer service.

The client can hire right away to get you trained up quickly for Q4, or they can have you start after the first of the year.

Part Time Insurance Customer Service

This is a Part Time, 16 to 24 hours/week long term hourly role. The agent is very busy writing new business and he needs someone to handle the day to day service work.

The agency is 30 years old and the owner is well respected in the Edmonds Community. It is a small office with a dedication to good old fashioned customer service. The agent is flexible with hours/schedule as long as you cover the busiest parts of the day/week. The agency is open Mon to Thurs from 9 am to 6 pm, and Fri from 9 am to 5 pm. You will have an hourly wage with monthly incentives for service/sales. This is NOT a cold calling sales job. You are a trusted client rep. You will be working with established customers and helping them with policy service, billing questions, adding lines of coverage for new vehicles or homes, and helping them make sure they have the right coverage levels for their unique needs.

The client will train someone who wants to learn the industry or he will bring on an experienced licensed agent with a competitive wage based on needs and industry experience. He will pay for all licensing for trainees. If no insurance experience, pay will start at $16/hr while in licensing.

Receptionist/Front Desk Admin: Learn about insurance

My Woodinville client wants to teach you the insurance business starting out on the front desk. This is a non-licensed administrative/receptionist role with Mon to Fri 8 am to 4:30 pm hours, no weekends. It is an in-office role that is full time, permanent, pays $15 to $18/hr based on your office experience in a similar setting, and it comes with fully paid medical benefits, simple IRA retirement plan, and free parking. They are a small independent insurance agency located in Woodinville that prides itself on lots of good old fashioned customer service. They have many long term customers and they cater to both business customers and individuals for their car, home, boats etc. They represent many different insurance companies, not just one so customers have lots of choices for coverage.

This position is ideal if you are willing to start at the front desk and you want to learn about insurance from tenured insurance experts. You will start out doing non-licensed insurance work. They will teach you how to use the agency management system and will teach you the ABC’s of insurance. They will also have you assist with agency advertising and social media. This gives you a chance to show off your creative side too.

Once you both feel like you ready to take the next step in your insurance career, they will pay for you to take your insurance licensing class so that you can move up to customer service and account management work.

Candidates need to have a high school degree, fast computer data entry skills, be knowledgeable about social media so that you can help with agency advertising, possess strong verbal and written communication skills, have good attendance, and solid work ethic. The company would like to hire a candidate that lives near Woodinville so commute is not a headache. No job hoppers please. Job requires at least 6 months of similar office reception/admin experience with good references. Note: you will have to pass a criminal background check when you become licensed.

My client is a full service independent insurance agency located in Multnomah County in Oregon. You will be working as an Account Manager in their Group Benefits Department. You will be supporting Benefits Producers who specialize in groups ranging from 20 to 150 lives. You will not have an assistant so you must be able to perform all parts of the renewal from start to finish including spread sheet analysis and employee benefit meetings. The book is all fully insured business. In addition to managing the renewal process, you will also market new business marketing and act as a claims advocate on behalf of your client groups.

The company provides a nice benefits package with 401K, generous profit sharing, free lunch/snacks, and free parking. This role allows for strong career growth and development. The office is spacious with state of the art computer systems. Salary is DOE and there is a commission for book growth than can range from $15,000 and up in addition to salary.

Position requires knowledge of local OR carrier markets, strong knowledge of Health Care Reform, 4+ years experience working as an Account Manager in an agency setting, and an OR Life and Health license. The ability to use Excel and Word at an intermediate level is also needed.
